Coglight workshop

About the Workshop

Careful work on the watches people actually wear.

Coglight has been a part of Phuket Town since 2011 — a quiet workshop where timekeeping is taken seriously and owners are kept informed every step of the way.

Our Background

Started by a watchmaker, run the same way

Coglight opened in 2011 when Kritsana Meeprasert — a trained horologist who had spent a decade working across workshops in Bangkok and Chiang Mai — settled in Phuket and decided to open a small space of his own. The name comes from the way a well-made movement catches light when the caseback is removed: that first glimpse of ordered, working parts.

The workshop began with a simple idea: that a watch brought in for repair deserves the same attention whether it cost ฿3,000 or ฿300,000. Most watch owners are not collectors or experts. They just want their piece to work, to look presentable, and to last a while longer. That is what we focus on.

Over the years the workshop has grown slowly and deliberately. We haven't rushed to take on more volume than we can handle well. Every watch is assessed in person, and we do not start work until the owner has agreed to a clear scope and price.

Mission & Values

What guides the way we work

Transparency first

We describe what we find before suggesting work. Owners are never pressured into a larger scope than is reasonable.

Minimal intervention

We do what is needed and no more. Restoration work preserves what makes the watch itself — original finishes and patina are respected, not erased.

A record with every piece

Written summaries accompany every returned watch. For restoration projects, a photographic record is included — a small thing that turns out to matter a great deal to owners.

Realistic timelines

We give honest turnaround estimates and stick to them. If something takes longer than expected, we let you know promptly.

How We Work

Standards we hold ourselves to

Condition assessment first

Every watch is examined before any work is quoted or started. We document what we find and share that assessment with you clearly.

Movement cleaning protocols

Mechanical servicing follows a structured process: full disassembly, ultrasonic cleaning, inspection under magnification, lubrication with correct grade oils, and timing verification.

Correct lubricant grades

We use manufacturer-specified oil grades for different movement types. Using the wrong lubricant is a common cause of premature wear — we don't take shortcuts here.

Photo documentation

Restoration projects are photographed throughout. The images form part of the written record returned with the watch — a record of condition before, during, and after.

Secure handling and storage

Watches in our care are individually logged and stored in a secure, climate-appropriate cabinet. No piece is left untracked or accessible to third parties.

Timing verification on return

Mechanical watches are run on a timing machine before return. Results are noted in the service summary so you have a baseline for future comparison.

Workshop Expertise

Watch care in Phuket, done at the right pace

Coglight works with mechanical and quartz watches across a wide range of ages and origins. Day-to-day enquiries include watches that have stopped keeping reliable time, quartz pieces that need a battery change alongside a proper gasket and case inspection, and mechanical watches due for their first service in several years.

The workshop also receives pieces brought in by people who have inherited a watch and are unsure of its condition or history. For these, the documentation process takes on particular value — understanding what a movement contains and what it has been through gives an owner a much clearer picture of what they are caring for.

Phuket's climate places additional demands on watches. Humidity and salt air accelerate corrosion inside cases that are not properly sealed. Regular gasket inspection — even on watches that seem to be working well — is one of the most practical things an owner can do. We raise this with customers not to generate work, but because it genuinely matters for longevity.

If you are unsure whether your watch needs attention, the most practical first step is simply to bring it in. We'll take a look without charge and tell you honestly what we find.
